The parish is, first, a people. Simply stated, it is a people called together by God. It is a people empowered by the Spirit to make increasingly true and obvious their response to God through Christ.
People must come to know their faith at the depth of their very souls. This will be a “knowing” that informs, forms, and transforms people in Christian faith. Thomas Groome, “The Purpose of Christian Catechesis” in
Empowering Catechetical Leaders (Washington, DC: NECA, 1999)
